If you define "environmentally friendly" as sustainable, then the production of maple wood is environmentally friendly. The growth time to maturity for a maple tree is relatively short (for trees used for timber production, only birch and cherry trees have a shorter lifespan), allowing for managing timber harvests over time to be sustainable. Also, maple is a hard wood, which makes it very durable. Products (such as flooring) made from maple do not have to be replaced as quickly as a products made from soft woods such as pine, thereby making more efficient use of timber resources over time. |

Maple wood is hard, heavy, resistant to shock and abrasion and quite strong. However to acquire this type of wood requires a large scale cutting of trees which in turn leads to afforestation. Thus the use of wood, be it of any kind is not environment friendly practice but if wood must be used then maple wood is the best bet as the adverse effects for the same are limited. |
