The oldest tree alive is 4841 years old. People have given names to the old trees living. The oldest living tree of them all is called Methuselah named after a Biblical figure reputed to have lived 969 years. This tree is in the Inyo National Forest, California, USA. The second oldest living tree is Sarv-e-Abarqu and its about 4000 years old.

The oldest tree still alive is believed to be living in Southern Siberia. It is a 'Bonsai Tree' and has a very deep root system. Some scientists predict that this tree is nearly 4000 years old. That's older than Jesus!

Currently the oldest known still living tree resides in Sweden, and is a 9,550 year old bristle cone pine at an altitude of 2,985 feet. Living on a mountain, it is still springing new life, though the root system was radio-carbon dated to show its true age. They survive for so long through an ability to essentially clone themselves, with a new tree growing from the same roots every time one dies.

As of 2008, the world's oldest tree resides in Sweden. A spruce tree, at 9,550 years old, is found northwest of Stockholm. Pine trees found in North America seem to be the only contenders with trees this old. The increasing global temperature may be a factor in these trees growing faster and lasting longer.

The oldest living single tree is a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine in California that is about 4,481 years old and has been given the name Methuselah for obvious reasons. However, in Dalarna Norway there is a clonal tree (multiple trees connected by a common root system) know as Old Tjikko. The trunk is only a few hundred year old but its root system is 9,550 year old.
