Heating and cooling a home is one of the main ways a household wastes resources, along with the materials used to build the home. So using materials that are easier on the planet is a good start. A roof if more important when it comes to the heating and cooling issue; a roof that works with the environment to maintain the temperature of the home will save more resources over its lifetime than what it took to initially create the home.

Green roofing is one small step which can be taken to reduce global warming. If enough individuals participated in green roofing, it is possible that it could have a large impact on the environment. Since this process is typical in cities where pollution is high and the amount of vegetation is limited, at the very least it could serve as a visual reminder of the importance of protecting the environment.

Green roofing, in all of it's many forms will reduce global warming, if only because of the consumption of carbon dioxide. Part of the problem with global warming has been due to the decrease in plants and forests. It addition, the covering on buildings will act as an insulator in the summer and decrease the need for air conditioning.
